Ibn Hazm al-Andalusi explores various dimensions of beauty in some of his works, seeking to articulate an Islamic aesthetic within the framework of social life from a religious perspective.Relying on both reason and revelation,he strives to establish a balance between religious teachings and the realities of human lived experience.Ibn Hazm argues that the presence of beauty as one of humanity’s inherent traits not only aligns with Islamic principles but also complements them. In his writings,he analyzes the concept of beauty from ethical and social perspectives, emphasizing its significance in the lives of Muslims. In this approach, beauty—encompassing human natural and social inclinations—must be guided by Islamic principles to foster individual and collective growth. In this context,he pays particular attention to love and its manifestations.Ibn Hazm evaluates the arts through the lens of their conformity with Islamic law (Sharia). While acknowledging the potential merits of certain art forms, such as didactic poetry or permissible music,he warns against artistic pursuits that deviate from the path of salvation or lead to frivolity. His views on specific art forms highlight his Islam-centric perspective. On the other hand, Ibn Hazm critiques rigid ideologies that suppress human natural inclinations, stressing that Islam must address human needs and provide, through its teachings, appropriate ways to integrate beauty into the lives of Muslims. Thus,he analyzes this relationship in his works, demonstrating how Islamic teachings can coexist with the realities embedded in beauty and sensory experiences.Ultimately,Ibn Hazm al-Andalusi seeks to outline a path for Muslims to infuse their lives with an aesthetic dimension while remaining faithful to religious principles.
