Abstract
Muslim philosophers do not consider poetry to be cognitive. In their view, poetry has a psychological function and not a cognitive one. Ibn Sina removed the poem from his philosophical study in his book Al-isharat and his idea remains among his followers. Of course, some logicians have added the poetry to the al-Sanaat al-Khams without any innovation.By ignoring this logical occurrence , in their words there are reasons to suggest that poetry has cognitive function but that the type of cognition it creates is different. This essay seeks to examine their view of what cognition is and to show that their speech has the potential to be considered poetry as a means of cognition. The method of study is analysis and description, and the result is that poetry is a cognitive process with the difference that the type of knowledge and its effects are different from what Muslim philosophers expected.
